Common Sense

Fri Oct 16, 2009, 1:39 PM
Saw this several places, felt the need to re-post it.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, “Common Sense,” who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

- knowing when to come in out of the rain;

- the early bird gets the worm;

- life isn’t always fair; and

- maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student, but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, “Truth” and “Trust,” by his wife, “Discretion,” by his daughter, “Responsibility,” and by his son, “Reason.”

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers – “I Know My Rights,” “I Want It Now,” “Someone Else Is To Blame,” and “I’m A Victim.”

Not many attended his funeral, because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Opinions

Okay, so it's been something like 4 months since I wrote a journal. A lot has happened.
It's nothing any of you would be interested in though, so *shrug* I won't waste your time.

Today in my Government class we were given an opinion quiz with 10 questions.
We were instructed to answer either "yes" or "no" to all of them. No maybe.

I am interested in hearing everyone else's opinions to these questions, so I'll post them along with how the class voted. Please don't kill me if you disagree with me.

1. Should drugs such as marijuana and cocaine be legalized for adult use?
Class vote 7 Yes/18 No. My vote: Yes
2. Should adults be allowed to ride motorcycles without a helmet?
Class vote 17 Yes 8 No. My vote: Yes
3. Should adults be allowed to drive without wearing a seatbelt?
Class vote 17 Yes 8 No. My vote: Yes
4. Should adults have the right to commit suicide?
Class vote 6 Yes 19 No. My vote: Yes (with conditions)(We were allowed conditions on this Q)
5. Should prostitution be legal for consenting adults?
Class vote 4 Yes 21 No. My vote: Yes
6. Should adults be allowed to buy a handgun without registering?
Class vote 6 Yes 19 No. My vote: Yes
7. Should consenting adults be allowed to engage in any type of sexual behavior they desire, as long as it only involves other (consenting) adults?
Class vote 18 Yes 7 No. My vote: Yes
8. Should adults be allowed to burn a flag?
Class Vote 5 Yes 20 No. My vote: Yes
9. Should same-sex marriage be legal?
Class vote 12 Yes 13 No. My vote: Yes
10. Should the government be allowed to listen to your conversations without warrants?
Class vote 3 Yes 22 No. My vote: No

If you disagree with my opinions or have questions about them, feel free to let me know. I'm happy to discuss.

I look forward to hearing how everyone else answers. (A few other people in my government class are interested in these results too)

Donnie Darko Drinking Game

Tue Sep 9, 2008, 7:03 PM
Okay so we tested this. It was expensive. For three people it requires at least 2 twelve packs. (we used caffene free coke since we had it)

As near as I can guess it's somewhere between 110 and 120 one ounce shots per person.

Rules
Take a shot...
1. Every time you see Frank.
2. Whenever Donnie sees time or a portal.
3. Every time someone says the F word.
4. Whenever you see grandma death.
5. Every time Donnie sees his therapist.
6. Every time you hear "Chut up".
7. Every time Donnie is at their hang out spot.
8. Every time Donnie makes an awkward scene.
9. Whenever Donnie sleepwalks.
10. Whenever you see the "Philosophy Of Time Travel" book.

We almost puked.
Not responsible if you do.
Play at your own risk.

***Director's cut will be twice as hard.

I dislike alcohol and discourage using it for this or anything else.
